“Allow Me to Share”

By: Welton

As fate would have it this life as I knew it was about to change for the absolute worse. Everything that was, would be no more. A troubled past haunted by a childhood of pain, loss, and confusion was my only companion at 25 years of age. I had no idea the many dark nights that I would face alone and cold. An eerie quiet as the gavel lay rested on the countertop of the cold desk. Few words would break the silence. My daze faded as I became very aware of the words that would rewrite the course of my life: 15 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections. One last glance at the ones I knew and grew to love as I was hauled off to a place where emotions and compassion were a thing of the past. As the years passed and hope was lost, out of thin air came an angel that would remove the view through bars and replace them with the most beautiful windows. Blessed with a new vision, I could see the light that has been waiting to guide me towards the beginning of a beautiful and prosperous future, an angel named Awake.
