Awake Gadflies: Amplifying Our Mission on Social Media
Awake’s vision is to “awaken a community of gadflies that excite stakeholders by creating innovative solutions to complex problems”. In that spirit, we’ve launched Awake Gadflies – dedicated social media channels on LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook. These channels will spotlight our social mission and the people living it. Our core mission is to provide meaningful second-chance employment to those often overlooked. Now, through Awake Gadflies, we will share stories, facts, and conversations that challenge the status quo, highlight our impact, and engage policymakers, companies, and community leaders in our work.
Embracing the Gadfly Mentality
At Awake, we encourage a “Gadfly Mentality” – speaking truth, questioning norms, and solving tough problems. Inspired by thinkers like Socrates and Dr. King, a gadfly challenges society to improve rather than accept injustice. In practice, this mindset “pushed us to build a business around second chance employment”. As our Director of Training and Safety Joe Mason says, we are working to create “a community of gadflies…looking for innovative solutions” to issues like mass incarceration. In short, being a gadfly in this instance means using this new social platform to advocate for reform and support those transforming their lives.

You’ll see myth-busting facts, profiles of our team members, behind-the-scenes looks at our work, and inspiring quotes.
