Job Description

A Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring that all equipment and machinery in a manufacturing facility are operating efficiently. Their job involves conducting routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment, and performing preventative maintenance to avoid breakdowns. In addition to the manufacturing environment, the technician is also responsible for performing ongoing facility maintenance and repairs including basic plumbing, A/C, heating and wiring with the goal of ensuring the facility is safe and functional at all times. When appropriate, the technician will also contract and coordinate with outside contractors to perform work on the facilities and/or manufacturing equipment.

A Maintenance Technician should have a strong understanding of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems and be able to read technical manuals and blueprints. Overall, a maintenance technician plays a crucial role in the manufacturing process.

Tasks/Detailed Work Activities

  • Comply with appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) standards.
  • Work with hazardous materials following OSHA guidelines for proper personal protective equipment.
  • Identify and fix potential safety hazards with equipment and facilities to avoid injuries.
  • Complete maintenance and work orders as assigned, in a safe and timely manner, according to established practices and procedures, with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance schedule/planning and complete routine equipment maintenance as required on all equipment.
  • Install and test new equipment
  • Manage and maintain CNC machines as well as auxiliary equipment.
  • Use schematics and test equipment to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical and pneumatic integrated systems.
  • Maintain cleanliness and general appearance of manufacturing facilities and surrounding areas.
  • Manage maintenance supplies and tools; inventory and reorder as needed.
  • Purchase parts and equipment as needed and coordinate with purchasing for large/complex purchases supplying them with all necessary technical information.
  • Inspect forklifts and skyjacks as required; perform basic maintenance/repairs and contact equipment service providers for any major repairs and/or service as needed.
  • Operate shop equipment such as mills, lathes, drill presses, grinders as needed.
  • Use welding equipment to fabricate or repair any shop equipment or furniture as needed.
  • Maintain and complete moves/adds/changes of electrical and low voltage drops as needed in both the manufacturing and office areas.
  • Repair damaged electrical and low voltage wiring when a shortage or severed wire occurs.
  • For larger efforts or projects that will create inefficiencies or shut down of an area, coordinate/communicate with key stakeholders to schedule the time with the least impact ensuring all necessary parts, equipment, tools, and suppliers are arranged in advance prior to beginning the work.
  • Coordinate with outside supplier to maintain mobile restroom trailer as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining security/camera system.
  • Perform routine building maintenance such as repairs to door/window, ceiling tiles and drywall as well as minor building repairs including light bulbs, switches, outlets, etc.
  • In coordination with outside contractors, maintain the building HVAC equipment and change filters, in order to keep climate control in the facility functioning properly.
  • Perform basic service and repair to broken or leaking plumbing fixtures to avoid water damage and restore full use of water fixtures; open clogged lines and drains.
  • Apply preventative measures to the building to reduce the risk of future problems.
  • Oversee building upgrades to preserve the facility.

  • Standing for long periods of time, walking, crouching, bending, and kneeling.
  • Must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds overhead.
  • Sufficient visual acuity including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to regularly talk and hear (the noise level in the shop can be loud.)
  • Must be able/willing to wear ear plugs/earmuffs, and safety glasses for the entire shift.

  • Respirators are required in limited environments to prevent inhalation of any hazardous particles
  • Appropriate PPE is required as operation of some equipment may expose employees to noise levels exceeding 85 dBA, or debris from cutting and drilling
  • Employees will be working in an evaporative cooled, non-air-conditioned environment.While efforts are made to create a comfortable environment with plenty of air movement, temperatures may reach over 90 degrees in summer months.

Job Specifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience: 2 years work experience in manufacturing industry
  • Adjustment of hours and/or weekend work may be required and/or overtime.
